Move your site away

Take your site to another host whenever you like: download every file, export your form replies and bookings, set up what Page Lemon ran for you, then move your domain. Keep the site here until the new one works.

Say this to your AI

Give me a download of my whole site on PageLemon.com and tell me what stops working if I host it somewhere else

Your AI gives you links to the site as a zip, valid for one hour, and lists what the site uses on Page Lemon. In the app, open the site's Settings → Versions & backup → Download .zip. A site over 1 GB comes in parts of up to 1 GB each: save every part, and together they hold every file.

What your AI will ask you

  • Which site you're taking, and where it's going, if you know. We don't recommend particular companies and we don't earn anything from where you go.
  • Whether the site has your own domain, contact forms, bookings, passcodes or invite-only pages, and what you want to do about each. Your AI can see which ones the site uses.
  • Whether the site stays here afterwards as a backup on its free address, or is deleted once you're happy.

What to have ready

  • A place for the files: an account with a website host, or a developer who will put them up.
  • To move your domain: the login of the company where your domain's settings are kept. The new host shows the records to use, usually in its domain settings. If a web designer looks after your domain, pass the records to them.
  • Nothing for your form replies and bookings: your AI points you to the export first.

What happens

  1. Your AI gives you links to the whole site as a zip. Download it yourself; it isn't sent through the chat.
  2. It tells you what the site uses on Page Lemon and what stops working on a copy hosted elsewhere, so you can export your form replies and bookings and choose a replacement before you move. It asks you before it does anything that ends service for visitors.
  3. You put the site up at the new host and check it there.
  4. You point your domain at the new host. When it shows the new site, your AI disconnects the domain here after you say yes.
  5. Optionally, your Page Lemon address sends visitors on to the new one for a while. Your AI tells you the result of each step.

What stops working on a copy

The files work anywhere. These run on Page Lemon, so they stop on a copy hosted elsewhere:

  • Contact forms: export the form replies first (the site's Lists → your form → More → Export CSV), then use your new host's form service or an email link.
  • Bookings: export the bookings first (the site's Lists → Bookings → More → Export CSV), then set up another booking tool, and tell customers with upcoming bookings.
  • Payments: finish or refund open orders first.
  • The site password and invite-only pages: your new host needs its own way to keep pages private.
  • Visit numbers: they stay here and don't move with the site.

Move your domain last

  1. Publish the site at the new host and check it there.
  2. At your domain company, point your domain at the new host.
  3. When the domain shows the new site, disconnect it here (ask your AI to remove the domain, or open Settings → Domain).

Disconnecting first leaves your domain showing nothing until the new host answers.

Where your files can go

Your site is plain files: HTML, CSS, images and scripts. Any static website host can serve them, and many have a free plan. With most of them you:

  1. Create a new site or project.
  2. Upload the folder from the zip (or drag it in), or push it to a Git repository the host deploys from.
  3. Check the site at the address the host gives you.
  4. Add your domain in the host's settings and copy the DNS records it shows you.

Some hosts expect the start page to be index.html at the top of the folder; Page Lemon zips are already laid out that way.

Forms and bookings elsewhere

  • Forms: use a form service that gives you a form address to post to, or your new host's own form feature, then change the form's action to that address. A simple mailto: link works too. Import your exported CSV wherever you keep contacts.
  • Bookings: set up a booking tool, add the same services and opening hours, and put its link or embed code on your page. Import the exported .ics file into your calendar so upcoming bookings stay in view, and tell customers who have upcoming bookings where to manage them now.
  • Invite-only pages and passcodes: choose a host with password protection or sign-in, or keep those pages here.

We don't recommend particular companies and we don't earn anything from where you go.

When the new site works, your Page Lemon address can send visitors on for 90 days, on every plan: open the site's Settings → General → This site has moved.

After the move

  • Delete the site here when you no longer need it, or keep it as a backup on its free address.
  • Your Page Lemon account and plan stay until you cancel them: Plans and billing.
