Things to do

Things to do around Saltings End

The harbour is three minutes from the cottage. The marsh is ten. Here is where to go, what to eat, and what to book.

Harbour

The quay, three minutes down Staithe Lane

Boats go out on the tide, and the fishing boats come in with the afternoon catch. The Lantern Room has a window onto the quay, and there is a bench at the end of the wall for watching the water.

Walk

Marram Walk, across the salt marsh

A boardwalk over the creeks, about two miles there and back. Samphire grows in the creeks in late summer, and curlews call all year. The path floods at high tide, so check the board by the quay first.

Seal trips

Gull Point Seal Trips run from the quay hut, from Easter to October. Trips last about 90 minutes on the water. Book at the hut on the day.

Staithe Bakery

Open from 7:30am, Tuesday to Sunday. Sourdough and cinnamon buns sell out by about 10am, so go early.

The Lantern Room

The pub on the quay, with food until 9pm. The kitchen is closed on Mondays, and dogs are welcome in the bar.

Walk up

Chapel Field to St Ebba’s church

A 20-minute climb from the end of the lane, with a view over the whole marsh and out to the sea. Bring a jacket, as it is windy at the top.
