Good Kin

A small tea blender in the Ebbridge hills wanted cartons that looked as careful as the blends, printed in two colours on board they could recycle at home.

Good Kin tea cartons with botanical cut-out windows

Eight blends, one carton, a window for every leaf.

Instead of eight designs, Mara drew one carton with a die-cut window shaped like the main leaf in each blend. One print plate, eight cutters, much lower print costs.

Kit named the blends and wrote the side panels: brewing times first, the story second, all of it short enough to read while the kettle boils.

Good Kin label system and botanical tea cards

Two colours, recycled board

A system the shop can reprint alone.

Every carton uses the same two inks. New blends need a new cutter and a name, not a new designer.

Mara’s note

“The window does the talking.”

You can see the tea before you read a word. That one decision took most of the design budget, and saved most of the print budget.

Kit’s note

“Brewing time goes first. Always.”

Nobody reads a tea’s backstory until they know how long to steep it. So the side panels start with the useful bit.

“Our wholesale orders doubled once the boxes went on shelves. Shops told us they sell themselves.”Joss Aldridge, founder, Good Kin

One carton, eight blends, two inks.
