Ingredients

What goes in the jar, and why we chose it

We would rather tell you too much than not enough. Here is every material in a Hadley & Dray candle and body bar, and the reason it is there.

Candles

Wax, wick and glass

Wax
A blend of soy and rapeseed wax, chosen for a clean burn and a pool that stays even. We melt it in our own pot and never reuse wax from another batch.
Wick
Cotton braided wick, sized to each jar and centred by hand. Trim to about 6 mm before each burn to keep the flame small and the soot low.
Glass
Amber or sage glass jars, sourced from a supplier who recycles offcuts. The lid is a plain metal disc that keeps dust out between burns.
Tin
The cedar tin is a steel tin with a printed label. The lid is reusable, and the tin can be recycled once the wax is finished.

Fragrance

Every scent on a list we share

Each candle uses a fragrance oil blend with a full ingredient list. Ask for it by email and we send the list for that scent the same day.

We keep fragrance loads moderate, so a candle smells clear rather than heavy, and the load is written on each scent's list.

Ember
Cedar, orange peel, pink pepper, clove, amber resin.
Fennel & Salt
Fennel seed, lemon zest, sea salt, linen musk.
Cedar tin
Cedar, bergamot, black pepper, vetiver, sandalwood.

Body care

What goes in the soap

Oats
Ground oats for a soft, slightly milky lather. They are sourced from a mill two valleys away.
Honey
Local honey added after saponification, so it stays in the bar rather than the lye.
Oils
Olive, coconut and shea butter. The recipe is set for a long-lasting bar that does not dry the hands.
Allergens
Contains oats and honey. Ask us about any allergy before you buy, and we will check the batch notes with you.
