Independent design & development

Booking for February ’27

A little odd.
A lot of good.

Hey, I’m Otto. I make brands and websites
with a point of view. And a bit of personality.

A few things I’ve made

Make yourself at home. Move the stickers.

Selected work

2024 — 2026

Small team.
Big feeling.

Good people, interesting problems.
Here are three recent favourites.

01Fold SupplyUseful things. Less of them.Strategy / Identity / Shop

A new identity and online shop for a small maker of bags built to be repaired. We started with the fold in a paper pattern and ended with a quietly confident brand, a four-product shop and a care guide people actually read.

02Lilt RadioA home for curious ears.Identity / Website / Build

Community radio that feels like a record handed to you by a friend. A custom programme archive, an easy-to-read schedule and a playful identity give 24 volunteer hosts one shared home without sanding off their differences.

03Common GroundA neighbourhood, at the table.Direction / Website / Build

A warm, deliberately unfussy website for a café and community kitchen. The changing menu and evening events live in one simple editor, so the team can publish Tuesday’s supper in the time it takes to make a flat white.

The person behind the pixels

Based in Pebble Quay, UK
Otto, in his natural habitat.

One person.
Many hats.
Usually a cap.

I’m Otto Bell, an independent designer who also writes the code. I like work that’s useful, slightly unexpected and unmistakably yours.

After seven years in small studios, I went solo in 2023. Now I work directly with founders, makers and good organisations, from the first scribble to the last broken link.

Outside of that: badly thrown pottery, very long walks and an unreasonable number of records.

What I bring to the table

From first thought to live site

Think it.
Make it.
Ship it.

(01)

A brand with a pulse

A clear idea, a distinct identity and enough room to grow. The strategy and the good-looking bit, together.

Positioning · Identity · Art direction

(02)

A website that feels right

Thoughtful structure, sharp design and small details that reward a second look. Built around your actual content.

UX · Web design · Creative development

(03)

Care after launch

Once it’s out in the world, I stick around. New pages, better flows and the things you didn’t know you’d need.

How we get there

Good work is a conversation

No mystery.
Just making.

  1. 01

    Get curious

A proper conversation. What you’re doing, who it’s for and what should feel different.

    Listen / Ask / Sketch
  2. 02

    Find the thread

One strong direction, explored together. Less presentation theatre, more useful thinking.

    Strategy / Direction
  3. 03

    Make it real

Design and code in the same room. You see it taking shape, with space for honest feedback.

    Design / Build / Refine
  4. 04

    Out it goes

The final checks, a calm launch and a proper handover. You’ll know how everything works.

    Test / Launch / Support

A note from the other side of the desk

“Otto got the feeling of our little business before we’d found the words for it. Then he made every last detail feel like us.”

NOTES ON THE EVERYDAY

Slow down. Look twice.

A collection of essays about noticing the things we usually walk past. Dog-eared at page 84.

My margin note

“The smallest details are often the whole point.” Keeping this above the monitor for the next project.
