Stoneware for everyday cooking and eating

Pots for the table, thrown and fired in Culverby.

Bowls, mugs, jugs and plates, made one at a time in a small studio off Slipway Yard. No two are quite the same, and every glaze is fired in the same kiln.

Three glazes, one kiln

Cobalt, ash and tenmoku.

  • Cobalt

A deep blue with copper speckle that pools at the foot of a bowl.

  • Ash

A cool, matt grey. The clay shows through at the rim where the glaze runs thin.

  • Tenmoku

A near-black iron glaze that breaks to rust brown wherever it is thin.

The studio

Thrown by Hettie Marr, one piece at a time.

Every pot goes through five stages in the same small studio, from wedging the clay to the final glaze firing. The studio is open to visitors on Wednesday to Saturday.
