How we work at Tidewater Labs

Two office days a week, enough time off to actually leave, money to learn with, and a hiring process with timelines we keep to. Here is the detail.

The quay at Gantry Wharf at dusk, with a gantry crane in orange and teal water lines.

Two days in the office, agreed with your team.

Most of us work from home on the other days. Each team picks its two office days together, so people who need to plan, pair or talk through a hard problem are in the same room. Nobody is asked to come in on a day their team has not chosen.

The office is on the third floor of the old net store at 5 Gantry Wharf, Selbury Docks QX9 1PT. Open the address in maps

Time off, learning and kit.

33 days' holiday
A year, including the eight bank holidays, so 25 days are yours to place when you like.
£1,000 learning budget
Each year, for courses, books, conferences or a certificate you choose. Ask before you book, and we will say yes to most things.
Parental leave
16 weeks at full pay for any parent, whatever your role or how long you have been here. Statutory pay applies to any further leave you take.
Equipment
A laptop from our list, a monitor and a chair for home, and a £250 home-office budget in your first year.

The hiring process, with honest timelines.

  1. We read your application

Ama Rosenthal-Kwarteng, our Head of People, or the hiring manager reads every application and replies by email. We have missed one before, so if you have heard nothing after five working days, email careers@tidewaterlabs.example.com and we will look again.

    Within five working days
  2. An intro call

About 30 minutes with the hiring manager, to talk about the role, your work and what you want next. Ask us anything, including the salary and the on-call rota.

Usually within two weeks of applying
  3. A paid task, or a pairing session

A task of about three hours, which we pay for at £150, to do in your own time over up to a week. Engineering roles can pair with two of us instead. Tell us if the timing does not suit you.

Up to a week to complete
  4. A final conversation and an offer

One last conversation with two people you would work with, then a decision within five working days. Offers come in writing, with the salary, start date and leave.

Most roles take three to five weeks from application to offer

Tell us what would help at any stage: a different format, more time, or a quiet room. You do not need to explain why.
