THE FADE CHART

HOW SHORT?

The guard sets a starting length. The fade is how we blend it. Choose a number to find the words for your cut.

GUARD 0 / APPROX.

0.5–1.5 MM

“Start with a zero on the sides, then blend up.” A close clipper finish with some stubble. Ask for skin if you want the base shaved right down.

GUARD 1 / APPROX.

3 MM

“A number one on the sides, blended into the top.” Short and neat, with enough hair to retain colour at the base.

GUARD 2 / APPROX.

6 MM

“Start at a two and leave weight above the temples.” A softer starting point if you want coverage rather than exposed skin.

GUARD 3 / APPROX.

10 MM

“A three on the sides, with a natural blend.” More coverage and a less visible contrast between the sides and the top.

GUARD 4 / APPROX.

13 MM

“Keep a four on the sides and tidy the edges.” A longer clipper cut that keeps some movement. Scissors can soften the join at the top.

Lengths are approximate: clipper brands and lever settings vary. Zero isn’t skin; tell your barber if you want a shaved base. Fade height is a separate choice.

A proper consultation, clipper or scissor cut, clean edges and a finish you can repeat at home.

A foil or razor base, blended by hand through the sides. Includes a cut and texture work on top.

Keep your length and lose the bulk. Shape, movement and a softer finish around the ears and neckline.

Low, mid or high fade?

That’s the height of the blend, not the length. Low sits around the ears. Mid comes up towards the temples. High removes more weight through the sides. Bring a side-view reference if you have one.

Call us and describe your current hair and the cut you want. A big change or longer hair may need extra chair time; we’ll confirm the service and price before you book.

Will you show me how to style it?

Yes. We’ll finish your cut and talk through how to do it at home. Tell us if you don’t use product; we’ll work with that.
