Water and reflections
Paint a still lake that mirrors the sky, with a reflected tree line and a post standing in the water.
You'll need
Four coloursUltramarine, rose, ochre and burnt sienna
Two brushesThe 1-inch flat and a size 4 round
OptionalMasking fluid for the ripples
PaperA quarter sheet, taped down

Sky and water in one go
Paint the sky, then turn the board upside down and paint the water with the same colours, so the lake mirrors the sky.
The water is a shade darker than the sky it reflects.

The far bank and its reflection
Paint the dark tree line along the horizon. While it is wet, pull it straight down into the water with a damp flat brush.
Pull straight down, never sideways.

Ripples and a post
When it is dry, lift a few thin horizontal lines with the damp edge of the flat brush, then paint a post and its wobbly reflection.
Three or four ripples are plenty.
