Issues
Three fights. One town.
Each issue below sets out the problem, what we want the council to do, and what the council has said so far. Pick the one that affects you most, then tell us.
Issue 01
The 14 comes back
The problem
Route 14 stopped in March after the operator cut its timetable. The nearest stop for the Beacon Lane estate is now a twenty-minute walk, and the hospital is two buses away.
What we want
A bus every 20 minutes, seven days a week, from the estate to the hospital and the college, with the route written into the next franchise.
What the council says
The council agrees the gap is real but says the route is not funded. A decision is due at the 27 October hearing.
How you can help
Sign the petition, then come to the hearing and tell the panel how you get to work or to care.
Issue 02
A safe crossing on Beacon Lane
The problem
Two school routes cross six lanes of traffic with no lights and a narrow island. Parents have stopped letting children walk alone, and a parent photographed a near miss last term.
What we want
A signal-controlled crossing at the school gate and a wider central island, built before the next school year starts.
What the council says
The crossing is on the work list for next year. We want it moved forward and costed in the December budget.
How you can help
Walk the route with us on the bus stop walk, and send a photo of the crossing at rush hour to hello@example.com.
Issue 03
Fares capped at £2
The problem
A single fare is now £2.60 and a second bus within an hour costs the same again. Workers on the lowest pay pay the most for short trips.
What we want
A fixed cap of £2 for any number of journeys in one hour, funded from the council transport grant.
What the council says
The council wants a trial in one area first. We want the whole town included from the start.
How you can help
Share your fares with us. Tell us what a week of buses costs you, and we will add it to the case.
