Earlier updates, in short

SepApple day

240 visitors, and 1,180 kg for the food bank

46 volunteers ran the press all day. Everything we couldn't juice went to the Ottery Hythe food bank in our own crates, every week of the picking.

New guards on all 38 young trees

Rabbits took the bark off two whips in July. Seed gifts paid for 38 new spiral guards and stakes, fitted over two Saturdays.

JulDry summer

Mulch kept the old block alive through July

Six weeks without rain. The rings of chip from last winter's brash held the water in; we lost no trees, against four the summer before.

JunThe year ahead

The orchard year, and where each gift goes

Winter is pruning and planting, spring is blossom watch, summer is thinning and mulch, autumn is picking and the press. Monthly gifts spread the cost across all of it.
