Five-day making retreat · Session two: 14 to 18 June 2027

Make something with your hands. Then sleep in a barn.

Lowfield Meadow runs five-day workshops in clay, botanical watercolour and natural dye on a working farm in Wendle Vale. Eighteen places a session, long tables at supper, and nothing you have to be anywhere for after lunch.

Session two has 5 of 18 places left.

Three studios, one farm

Your hands get busy. Your head gets quiet.

Mornings are for making, afternoons for the walk or the nap you have been promising yourself, evenings for a long supper. Each studio is run by one maker, for the whole week.

Clay, by hand

Pinch pots, coil vessels and a slow glaze test. No wheel and no rush. Every piece is fired and posted to you after the week.

Meet Ruth Ashdown

Watercolour from the hedge

Draw the plants along the farm track, then wash them onto paper you can take home. Beginners sit beside people who have painted for years.

Meet Idris Vane

Dye and print

Onion skins, madder and iron water. You leave with a printed tea towel, a notebook of swatches and a stain on one sleeve.

Meet Yara Tallis

A day here

Breakfast late, supper long.

Nothing is compulsory after the first morning. The timetable is a suggestion, with good coffee at the start of it.

Read the full week
  1. Coffee in the yard, before the kilns are lit.

  2. Morning studio, with the bench to yourself until you ask for help.

  3. Lunch on the long bench, outdoors if the weather allows.

  4. Free time: the walk, the bath, the hammock by the hedge.

  5. Supper, then whoever wants to talk stays on after the plates go.

Where you sleep

A bed under the rafters, or in the orchard.

Three kinds of bed, all within a two-minute walk of the studios. Breakfast, lunch and supper are included in every stay.
