Elin Cardew / Sloemere, England

Hello.
I’m Elin.

I write essays, keep untidy notebooks, and live in a small town close enough to the sea to hear it on a quiet night.

Margin began as a letter to twelve friends in 2023. It is still a letter to friends; there are just a few more of you now. I send it every other Sunday, around nine in the morning.

I am interested in the texture of ordinary life. The names we give places. The things we repair. The people who make a town feel like a town.

Most weeks the first draft is handwritten, then typed up on a machine that sticks on the letter e. I have decided to keep it.
