FR 07 The practice

Noor, in the studio.

I photograph the space between something and nothing. Noor Kaspar, photographic artist. Working from a studio in Northmere, making small studies and a few editions each year.

A room. A lens. A possibility.

I’m Noor, a photographic artist working from a small studio above an old bookbinder’s in Northmere.

Since 2019, I’ve been making images from the simplest materials: a sheet of glass, a borrowed mirror, the light already in the room. Less equipment. More attention.

Each study takes as long as the light needs. Some take a single evening. The blue-hour series took eighteen mornings.

How a study is made.

Observe the room
I spend time with a window or a corner before I photograph anything, noting where the light lands and how it moves.
Set the glass
A sheet of glass, a mirror or a paper aperture goes where the light is already falling. Nothing is added that the room does not hold.
Wait for the light
Exposures run from eight seconds to half a minute. I keep the same frame until it stops repeating itself.

See the studio in person.
