Care

Gold and stone, kept well.

Gold lasts for generations if you give it a little attention. Most damage comes from chemicals, knocks and loose stones left too long.

Macro texture of hammered gold

Cleaning

Warm water, soft brush, dry cloth.

Soak your piece for five minutes in warm water with a drop of mild washing-up liquid. Brush the back of the setting gently with a soft toothbrush, rinse, then pat dry with a lint-free cloth.

Do not use bleach, chlorine, ultrasonic cleaners or steam for gemstones. Take the piece off before swimming, cleaning the house, gardening or going to the gym.

What each piece needs.

Quick reference for pieces from the collection
PieceNotes
18 carat yellow goldWipe after wear. Holds its colour well, and only needs a rinse and a polish every few months.
9 carat brushed goldHarder-wearing alloy. Brushed finishes hide scratches, so repolish only when the sheen dulls.
White sapphireVery hard, with a clean sparkle. Remove for heavy work, and check the setting twice a year.
Hammered bandThe texture collects dust. Use a soft brush in the dimples and keep it in a lined box.
Pearls and soft stonesKeep them dry and away from perfume and hairspray. Wipe with a damp cloth and lay flat to dry.

Storage and wear

Keep pieces apart.

  1. Store separately

Keep each piece in its own pouch or a lined box, so the stones do not scratch the gold.

  2. Keep them dry

Add a silica pouch to the box in damp months. Take jewellery off before bed or a shower.

  3. Check at the bench

Bring pieces in twice a year for a free prong and clasp check. We will tell you if anything needs work.

If something goes wrong

A loose stone or a broken clasp.

Stop wearing the piece straight away, keep the stone, and bring it to the studio or post it insured. Repairs to our own work are free for the first two years.

Book a repair check

Repairs to pieces we did not make are quoted after a look at the bench. We will say so before any work starts, and we will never fit a stone we have not shown you first.
