Cinder

Open source · MIT licence · v2.4

Static sites in one binary.

Cinder turns a folder of Markdown and HTML into a finished site. No Node, no config file, no lockfile to argue with. Your laptop and CI produce the same output.

Install with Homebrew

brew install cinderbuild/tap/cinder

A small site needs little. Cinder keeps it that way.

Markdown in, finished HTML out

Write pages in Markdown with a few lines of front matter. Cinder adds the layout, a sitemap, an RSS feed and clean URLs. Nobody on the team has to learn a template language to start.

Hot reload that keeps up

Save a file and the open tab updates in about 80 ms on a site of 300 pages. A layout edit rebuilds only the pages that use it.

One file, three systems

A single static binary for macOS, Linux and Windows. There is nothing beside it to install and nothing underneath it to update.

Plugins as plain programs

A plugin is any program that reads JSON on stdin and writes JSON to stdout. Write it in the language your team already uses.

Builds that match in CI

The same command gives the same bytes on your laptop and in CI. Output is sorted and timestamps are fixed, so diffs stay readable in review.

See it run

One command builds the site. A second serves it.

  1. Run cinder init in any folder that holds Markdown.
  2. Run cinder build. The finished site goes to public/.
  3. Run cinder serve and open the local address it prints.

What users say

“We dropped a Node toolchain and a long config file in the same week. The site builds faster now, and nobody on the team asks about the build any more.”
