# Keys

Keys let Page Lemon use your account at another service for your site, such as the monitoring tool that receives your app's AI usage records. You add a key once in the Page Lemon app; after that nobody can see it again, not even you, and only Page Lemon's server uses it when it talks to that service.

## Say this to your AI

Keys are added in the Page Lemon app, never in a chat. Your AI can tell you where:

```prompt
Where do I add a key for my site on PageLemon.com?
```

If you paste a key into an AI chat, Page Lemon refuses it. The key is now in that chat's history, so cancel it at the service, make a new one and add it in the app.

## What your AI will ask you

- Nothing about the key itself: an AI never asks for a key. Where a feature uses one, you pick it by its name (for example `grafana`) in the app.

## What to have ready

- **The key**, made at the service: look for **API keys**, **Access tokens** or **Credentials** in that service's settings, create one, and copy it.
- **Access to your email inbox:** before a key is added or replaced, we ask you to confirm it's you with a code we email you.

## Add a key

1. Open your site in [dash.pagelemon.com](https://dash.pagelemon.com), then **Settings** → **Keys**.
2. Give the key a **Name** (lowercase letters, digits, hyphens or underscores, such as `grafana`) and say which **Service** it's for.
3. Paste the key and click **Save key**. If we ask you to confirm it's you, enter the code we email you; the key is saved straight after. It's sealed as soon as it arrives and never shown again.

Each key shows its name, service, when it was added, when it was last used and whether it worked. Never the key itself, and not even its last characters.

> **Plans:** Keys are on every plan. The features that use a key have their own plans: see [AI in your app](/docs/ai-in-your-app). [See pricing](/pricing).

## Change or remove a key

- **Replace** gives a key a new value, for example after you cancel the old one at the service. Page Lemon never reads a key back, so replacing is the only way to change one.
- **Remove** deletes a key at once. A key that something uses can't be removed: choose another key there first.
- A key marked **Not working** was refused by the service the last time it was used: make a new key at the service and replace it.

## Good to know

- Only the site's owner (the Site Owner, or the Workspace Owner and Admins of a workspace site) adds, replaces or removes keys, and only in the app. API tokens and AI apps can't read or add them.
- Keys are deleted when the site is handed over to someone else or deleted, and they're left out of every download and export.
- Your activity log shows each key added, replaced or removed, by name.

Something not working? See [Fix a problem](/docs/fix-a-problem).

For AI assistants: never ask for a key in the chat; send the person to their site's **Settings** → **Keys** in the Page Lemon app, then use the key by its name. The guide is at [pagelemon.com/agents](https://pagelemon.com/agents).
